Alternative Energy
Carter’s Vineyards has chosen to use only
renewable energy to power the enterprise, which is not
connected to mains electricity or water. We are proud to be
the winners of an Environmental Awareness Award and visitors
have the opportunity to see how we have dealt with various
environmental concepts. Solar panels power the
computers and office management systems and a wind turbine
harnesses wind energy to add to our reservoir of renewable
energy.
A reed bed waste filtration area
was established in 1995. Its fertile soak away area is used to
produce the nitrogen loving plant Comfrey, which is cultivated
and harvested as a mulch to adjust soil composition around
organically grown vines and to help with weed control.
